Shashank Shamshabad is a 19-year-old resident of Manhattan who is deeply passionate about politics, youth involvement, and community advocacy. He is currently pursuing a degree at New York University, majoring in Economics/Liberal Studies from NYU College of Arts and Sciences and minoring in Business Studies from NYU Stern and American Sign Language from NYU Steinhardt. Shashank is also an Intern at the Office of US Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer. While not in class or at work, Shashank is the Secretary of the Manhattan Young Democrats, a member of the New York State Democratic Part¥ Affirmative Action Committee, a member of the New York County Democratic Committee, and involved with various neighborhood political clubs including: Samuel J. Tilden Democratic Club and Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club.
Shashank’s interest in politics and government started a young age. His first step into the political/government world started at the Mayor’s Office of Schenectady, where he served as an intern for Mayor Gary McCarthy at 16 years old. His interest led him to work with various political campaigns, including Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s reelection campaign, Assemblymember Alex Bores’ campaign, and more. He also served as an Executive Board Member of the Manhattan Young Democrats, where he focused on improving college outreach and involvement in NYC politics. Shashank is currently the Secretary of Manhattan Young Democrats, serving as the youngest officer and board member. Shashank’s community work extends beyond politics, as he is the founder and president of the Balance Foundation, a community outreach program aimed at getting youth involved in issues in the community and country. Shashank’s dedication to making a difference has been recognized by the previous Governor of New York, who appreciated his work at Schenectady City Hall, Senator Michelle Hinchey for his work with the Balance Foundation, and various other figures.
Shashank aims to continue working in public service and to represent his community in any way possible.
